Scott Crone, Councillor
Working For You
In 2018 I promised that I would work hard on your behalf and be a voice for Mt. Albert and the rural part of East Gwillimbury. I also promised that I would advocate for issues that were important to residents. Here are some of the things that I have accomplished along with the rest of council:
Community Safety
- Traffic calming measures for King St.
- Reduced speed limit from 50 km/h to 40 km/h for all subdivisions in EG
- A school crossing guard for Don Rose Blvd.
Broadband Internet
- Council liaison to the EG Broadband Working Group
- Encouraged staff to remove red-tape for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) when providing more service to residents
- Improved coverage of basic internet to 95% of EG residents
- Saw the investment of over $20,000,000 of broadband infrastructure by ISPs
- Successfully lobbied for YorkNet to receive $60 million in investment for laying fiber optic cable in York Region
Exercise Fiscal Responsibility
- EG has the lowest relative property taxes in York Region
- Our town has zero debt
- We have over $125 million in reserves
- This last term of council saw the lowest rate of property taxation than any other time in living memory
Democratic Renewal and Accountability
- Streaming of all Council meetings online
- Internet voting in 2022 election
- Held ward meetings pre-pandemic
- Personally accessible by phone, email, or social media messenger. My personal standard was to reply within 24 hours of all messages.

- Voted to provide meeting space for seniors clubs
- Pushed for more options in seniors housing e.g. Sharon Corners, more condominium and rental apartments in our housing mix.
Support for Small Business

A Customer Service Culture

- Pushed for monthly billing for residents to better budget

- Successfully advocated for federal funding to be included in the 2022-2023 federal budget that would support the clean-up of Lake Simcoe
- Pushed for the new HALP to be “net zero ready” and achieved cost effective options
